What can I do if I have a slow speed when connected to the MERCUSYS Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi Network?

There are different situations about the slow speed issue, and please refer to the steps below to locate the problem and troubleshoot according to the corresponding suggestions.

Step 1. Figure out whether you’re experiencing slow speed problems on multiple devices.

If only a specific device has the slow speed issue, turn the device's Wi-Fi off and on again. If that doesn't work, try rebooting the device.

If it’s a computer, usually uninstall and then reinstall the driver of the Wi-Fi network adapter will make sense. You could refer to the manufacturer of the adapter if you don't know how to do that.

If multiple devices suffer from the slow speed issue, read on!

Step 2. Confirm if the main router gets the expected wired speed.

1). Connect a PC to the main router via an Ethernet cable, then test on the Speedtest®, kindly check the Internet speed you get.

2). Disconnect the main router from your modem or Ethernet port, connect this PC to the modem directly with the same Ethernet cable, then test the speed you get.

Compare these two results; if you also get slow speed on result2, this issue is related to the line quality. Restarting your modem can sometimes fix connectivity issues and improve the performance. If it doesn’t make sense, it’s suggested to contact your ISP.

If the Internet speed is normal when your PC connects to the modem directly but has a slow speed when you connect to the main router via wired, please refer to Case 1.

If both of them have good speed, move on to the next step.

Step 3. Connect the same PC to the slave units one by one with an Ethernet cable and go to Speedtest® to test the speed of each slave unit.

If a certain slave unit gets slow Internet speed, please refer to Case 2.

If these slave units get normal wired speed but experience slow Wi-Fi speed, please refer to Case 3.

Case 1:

1). Try to test via another Ethernet cable; make sure whether it has negotiated to the normal rate.

2). Reboot the main router and test the speed again.

Case 2:

1). Move the slave unit closer to the main router, ensure there are no/fewer obstacles between the main router and slave unit, then we can test if the slave unit can get better speed.

2). If the router still experiences slow speed, reboot all the units for a try.

Case 3:

1). If you want to make a speed test on a mobile device, we recommend running the Ookla speedtest.net app to check the internet speed. To ensure you’re connected to the nearest unit when doing a speed test, please turn the mobile device’s Wi-Fi off and on again after it moves to a new location.

2). If the client experiences a slow Wi-Fi speed issue while connected to the main unit, reboot the main unit for a try.

3). If the client experiences a slow Wi-Fi speed issue while connected to the slave unit, move the slave unit closer to the main router and ensure there are no/fewer obstacles between the main router and slave unit. If it doesn’t make sense, reboot all the units for a try.
